Jalisco Public Library
A proposal for the Public Library of Jalisco defined by a generous civic plaza at ground level, with the library lifted above it. The main reading room sits on the upper level—quiet, light-filled, and set apart from the intensity of the public square.
This proposal reimagines the Public Library of Jalisco as a two-layer civic institution: a large public plaza as the building’s ground-level front, and the library volume placed above the plaza to create shade, openness, and a clear urban gesture. The plaza is conceived as an inclusive public room—hosting gatherings, events, and everyday city life—while also organizing access and orientation.
Elevating the library allows the interior to become calmer and more controlled. The main reading room is positioned on the upper level to capture light, views, and a sense of quiet focus, separated from the activity below. The project balances civic presence and functional clarity: public space as the base, knowledge and contemplation above.
