Estadio Defensores del Chaco

A proposal to renovate and upgrade the Defensores del Chaco Stadium in Asunción. The concept focuses on improving facilities, renewing the exterior image, and adding a new roof to enhance comfort and performance

This project is a concept design proposal for the renovation of Estadio Defensores del Chaco, aimed at modernizing the venue while honoring its historic role in Paraguayan football. The intervention focuses on three key goals: upgrading spectator and operational facilities, redefining the stadium’s exterior identity, and introducing a new roof system to enhance shade and weather protection across main seating areas.

A central narrative element is the new façade: a surface composed of unique ceramic pieces, each inscribed with the name of a Paraguayan citizen. This transforms the stadium envelope into a collective register—reinforcing the idea that the Paraguayan people are always present, surrounding and embracing their national team.

The overall approach is intended to be clear and buildable, improving comfort, circulation, and matchday performance while strengthening the stadium’s civic meaning. This is a proposal only and was not executed.
