Estacion Retiro
A proposal to enhance the historic Retiro Railway Station while introducing a new commercial building along Avenida del Libertador. The design reinforces the existing landmark and adds a contemporary metal structure that dialogues with the station’s iconic historic metal roofs.
This proposal combines heritage valorization with a strategic new intervention in one of Buenos Aires’ most significant transport landmarks. The project focuses on putting the existing Retiro Station building into renewed value—clarifying public spaces and reinforcing its architectural presence—while incorporating a new commercial development fronting Avenida del Libertador.
The new volume is conceived as a contemporary metal structure, intentionally aligned with the station’s historic industrial language. Its form and materiality establish a clear dialogue with the existing metal roofscape, creating continuity between old and new without imitation. The result is a balanced composition: a respected heritage building strengthened by a precise, modern addition that supports new uses and long-term urban vitality.
